Overflow + Induction Control Scheme
Due to reasons such as unreasonable urban planning, unbalanced allocation of time and space resources, or traffic accidents, significant variations in road traffic flow occur across different times of day within cities. A signal control strategy combining overflow + induction control can be adopted. This control scheme adjusts signal timing for each intersection direction d on real-time vehicle arrival data detected by vehicle detectors, adapting to changing traffic demands. It can also timely detect the queue overflow status and change to an appropriate signal control scheme, which can effectively solve the problems of insufficient urban traffic capacity and traffic congestion.
When using the radar-video-geomagnetic integrated microwave detector for overflow + induction control, the position and size of the induction loops can be freely configured, which is applicable to large/small area detection and can output the vehicle occupancy status in real-time.
Deployment Method:
(1) One MPD093 radar-video-geomagnetic integrated detector shall be installed on each signal lamp pole at the four directions of the intersection, and the detectors shall face the direction of incoming vehicles.
(2) Arrange a row of virtual coils at approximately 12m, 25m, and 39m downstream from the stop line along the approach lanes for stop-line detection, extended-range detection, and free-flow detection respectively.
(3) For both lanes in each exit direction, two geomagnetic detectors shall be installed in each lane, with a 4-meter interval between the two geomagnetic detectors in the same lane. They are used for overflow detection and queuing warning, and are set at approximately 50m from the stop line in the exit direction.
(4) The installation position of the repeater must enable it to cover the view and range of the overflow detectors/radar-video-geomagnetic integrated detectors supported by the repeater without obstruction. The maximum distance between the repeater and the radar-video-geomagnetic integrated detector is 310m. Therefore, the repeater can be installed at any position as long as it can provide good signal coverage to the radar-video-geomagnetic integrated detectors/overflow detectors.
The layout of induction-overflow control detectors can refer to the following diagram:
